The Challenge
The increase of mental health cases is becoming overwhelming – all hands should be on deck to address the growth of mental illness. NextGen vows to help!
Based on data from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) the number of mental health-related ER visits increased significantly each year from 2014 to 2020.
Data from MDH also shows that the number of overdose-related visits to the ER increased from 2016 to 2018 based on data from MDH funded studies.
Data from MDH establishes that the number of PG County Medicare beneficiaries that have been treated for depression has increased each year from 2009 to 2017.
These three mental health data indicators present a problematic trend that establishes that mental health disparities continue to increase year after year in PG County.
Research shows that access to effective community based mental health services can significantly reduce the number of ER visits and engagements residents of municipalities or counties have with law enforcement personnel.
